Expressions Media is teaming up with WOMADelaide to give school students a chance to learn how to be a journalist and then put those skills to use at the biggest world music event in the nation.

Headliners at WOMADelaide  is open to young people from Years 5 to 12 with a keen interest in media, music and culture. Participants will undertake an intensive, one-day training course in journalism and then attend the media conference prior to the WOMAD weekend, with a rare opportunity to interview the artists performing at the festival.

There are three stages to Headliners:

Intensive workshop on March 2nd, 10am to 5pm: A full day of interactive activities, designed to hone skills in interviews, writing, editing and photo-journalism, with a particular focus on music journalism.

Media conference on Friday March 8th at Adelaide Botanic Park (WOMADelaide): Following successful completion of the intensive, advanced course, our friends at WOMADelaide have invited Expressions Media and all participants to attend their media conference to interview international, national and local artists. This will occur during the day – times to be confirmed closer to the date.

Publishing stories: Participants will write stories based on interviews to be published on The Upside News.  The full line-up and tickets for WOMADelaide 2019 can be found at: www.womadelaide.com.au

Headliners is run by Libby Parker and Matthew Trainor from Expressions Media, both qualified secondary teachers and working journalists who have provided media coverage of WOMADelaide for the past six years. Libby has written for The Advertiser, BSide Magazine, The Upside News, Inside South Australia, Refraction Media  and  Glam Adelaide, while Matthew has written for The Upside News, Glam Adelaide and BSide Magazine.
